Instagram will be getting a refresh

Just as you were about to sit down and enjoy your #ThanksgivingDinner Instagram has announced that user profiles on Instagram will be getting a refresh.

Over the next several weeks, you may see features re-arranged at the top of your profile including changes to icons, buttons and the way you navigate between tabs, which we hope will make profiles easier and cleaner to use. The photos and videos you’ve shared on your grid won’t change.

This is definitely a welcoming refresh to their application, and a well deserved ✋. They’ve even included an example of what the changes will look like (copied below).

There are many things to notice from this change.

  • Moving of the profile picture from the left to the right.
  • Removal of the number of posts.
  • Bringing down the Call-to-Action buttons  directly above the image grid
  • Following & Follower counts are brought down and no longer in bold

Will these changes make the user less inclined to care about their follower count? Probably not, but we will see how it plays out.

Hopefully these new changes will be welcomed by the Instagram user-base. These changes might not hit you right away, as with all tech giants big changes like these will have a steady roll out.

What do you think of this new Instagram refresh?
